Aaron Rodgers Addresses Rumors That He’ll Step Down
Aaron Rodgers is definitely one of the greatest quarterbacks of his era, but he’s had a wacky year. Green Bay’s season has been less than stellar, and many are pointing fingers, even if it’s unfairly, at Rodgers.
That said, there are rumors that he’ll step down after next week’s bye. If he does, Jordan Love would round out the 2022 season.
When asked about the possibility of stepping down, Rogers says he hopes it doesn’t happen. He wants to win the final five games. However, he knows the Packers might want to bring out their 2020 first-round pick.
“Look, I’d love to finish the season out,” Rodgers said via PackersNews.com, “but I understand this is a business and there’s a lot of us kind of older guys who play a decent amount, and they might want to see some younger guys play. Hopefully we don’t have to have that conversation, but if that conversation comes up, I’ll approach it with an open mind without any bitterness or resentment. Obviously, like I said, I want to win out, and then we don’t have to have those conversations.” He added, “But I understand if we don’t, that it’s a possibility to have that conversation.”
Throughout the season, the Packers have said that they’re sticking with Rodgers and not bringing on another quarterback. But, that doesn’t stop these rumors from swirling. What I’m most curious about is whether Rodgers will decide to retire after this season.
When asked if he might retire, especially considering his injuries, Rodgers admitted it’s uncertain. “That’s an assumption,” Rodgers said, “that this place won’t look any different next year. So I think that’s part of the conversation.” Read the full article here.
