Best Michigan Day Trip You Need to Try
Many people take long summer vacations, but what if you only have a day to get away? Thankfully, here in the Mitten, we have plenty of fantastic Michigan day trip options. It really doesn’t matter where you live in the state. The entire region offers a bountiful amount of day trip options.
Pure Michigan, the advertising campaign by the state of Michigan to market the state of Michigan as a travel and tourism destination, has a fun list of some great day trips to try in Michigan. One of my personal favorites on here is taking a day to enjoy East Lansing and the Michigan State University campus. A few of the spots they recommend visiting are the MSU Dairy Complex, Food Processing Plant and Dairy Store. Actually, the MSU Dairy Store is one of my favorite spots to enjoy a delicious scoop of ice cream. As a MSU grad, I’ve been there many times. One of my other favorite day trips is visiting my uncle in Fennville, Michigan, right off of Lake Michigan. There are a lot of fun things to do in that area of the state.
But, enough about the Spartan day trip. Pure Michigan has named one Michigan day trip their No. 1, and that’s finding “lesser-known attractions” in Lake Huron Bay. “Spin a Michigan day trip around a series of bayfront communities, also known as the Great Lakes Bay region, which are all easily accessed by I-75 and wrap in some of the state’s best—and lesser-known attractions,” they state. One of their ideas is visiting Frankenmuth, which offers beautiful Bavarian streetscapes. What makes Frankenmuth an even more appealing stop this time of year is that they has the biggest Christmas store anywhere, Bronner’s CHRISTmas Wonderland, and they do it up big for Christmas in July.
