Active Duty Miss America Named Honorary Driver for Daytona 500
It’s almost NASCAR season, which is wild to think about in Michigan, because it’s still very much winter. But the Daytona 500 kicks off on Feb. 18. Adding to the festivities will be Madison Marsh, the newly crowned Miss America, will be the honorary pace-car driver before the start of the Daytona 500 at the International Speedway. The Speedway made the announcement in a press release and on social media.
Marsh isn’t just a beauty queen. She’s also an active duty US Air Force Officer. That’s a really great choice. Maybe she’ll come to Michigan during our NASCAR weekend. But, don’t bet on it.
“I’m thrilled to be part of this historic moment and to represent the tradition of speed, skill, and Americana at such an iconic event,” Marsh in a press release from the Speedway. “It’s an honor to have someone like Madison, who has so much spirit, passion and national pride, join us for the Daytona 500,” Speedway president Frank Kelleher said in a statement.
Marsh was named Miss America during the pageant’s competition in January. She is the only active-duty Air Force officer to ever win the crown. She’s a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and is currently serving as a second lieutenant. She’s also earning her master’s degree at the Harvard University Kennedy School of Public Policy. Wow. She really does it all, right?
But, what about NASCAR in Michigan? Count down the days until the weekend of Aug. 16 through 18, when the 2024 NASCAR presented by Firekeepers Casino will take over the Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn. Drivers will compete in the Manufacturers’ Backyard for an opportunity to take home the Michigan Heritage Trophy. “With great camping options, special kids’ pricing, concerts, vendors, and more, MIS is the perfect place to end your summer vacation with family and friends,” the MIS states on their official website.
