Beloved Michigan Restaurant Closes Second to Last Location
It’s always sad when a beloved Michigan restaurant closes its doors, especially when it’s been part of the Mitten for a long time. Now, a local restaurant is closing its second to last location in Michigan, and this one has me teary-eyed, because I was there just the other day. What’s even crazier and more surprising is that this restaurant had just reopened its second Michigan location earlier this year.
Beloved Michigan Restaurant Closes
I’m all about local food. There’s just something that’s more fun and has more personality about going out to eat at a locally-owned restaurant. Don’t get me wrong. I really like chain restaurants, too, because they’re always reliable. But, going to a locally-owned spot where the owners have been part of the community for years is special. That said, I’m not happy about this local restaurant closing its second to last Michigan location.
Green Dot Stables in Lansing, a beloved Michigan restaurant, took to social media to announced that it would hold its last show and dinner service on June 30. “Come see us tonight. Last show. Last dinner service,” they wrote on Facebook, adding, “Thank you to the many Lansing customers who have supported us since 2017.” They continued, “Sincerest and whole hearted love and thanks to Matthew, Keshawn, and Ryan who have built and led an incredible team and poured their hearts into this beautiful venue that we’re extremely proud of. Now is the time for the right person to take it over. Could it be you? Please direct inquiries to Todd Kosta at Woodworth Commercial Lansing.”
Green Dot Stables reopened in February after closing in 2022. It reopened as an entertainment venue that hosted popular concerts and club nights as “The Junction.” Then, The Junction closed for its final show on Jan. 24, 2024, and the building reopened as Green Dot Stables. At the new Green Dot Stables, they still hosted concerts that you could see come to The Junction. For example, they booked rapped Caskey for a show earlier this year, and they still held that concert at Green Dot. It really seemed like a perfect combination of great food, drinks and music. I was actually there the weekend before Green Dot closed and absolutely loved the food. They have a ton of different options and tiny plates, and I grew to especially like their vegetarian sliders. Their mac and cheese was totally on point, too. I’m sad to see this beloved Michigan restaurant go, but they still have one Michigan location in Detroit. What local eateries do you miss?
