“‘I’m on Fire’ was one of my favorite songs to record, because it was Bruce, myself and Roy Bittan in the studio late at night and the lights were down low. And Bruce wanted a subtle but very driving drumbeat. So I took out a brush and a drumstick and I laid it across the drum and just played this very kind of metronomic kind of backbeat. It almost sounds like a drum machine, but it’s me. I remember we went back into the control room and listened to it and it’s kind of a quiet down song, but Bruce said, ‘Man, that thing rocks.’”
