Bob Seger on what inspired him to write “We’ve Got Tonight.” OC:…could do. :28

“’We’ve Got Tonight’ was inspired by the movie The Sting, where Robert Redford’s character – it’s four in the morning , he’s running away from the bad guys and he goes to this waitress’ room that he met earlier in the evening , knocks on the door and says, ‘It’s four AM and I don’t know anybody.’ And it’s sorta like, ‘It’s just you and me, you wanna do something about it?’ That’s really what inspired the song, and it was just about two people who are just kind of weary and they suddenly say, ‘Well, you know, I’m a guy and you’re a girl, there’s something we could do.’”
