WCSX Classic Cuts : Paradise City
WCSX Classic Cuts
Guns n’ Roses: “Paradise City”
The Hook: It’s probably Slash’s favorite G n’ R song, so happy birthday, Axl Rose.
Year Released: 1987
Album: Appetite for Destruction
Writers: Axl Rose, Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan, Steven Adler
Stats: The third single released off Appetite…, it became their third Top 10, peaking at number-five.
The Background: Slash says when he hears the song now, he hears “the heart and the direction” of the band already in place. And while he thinks it’s “a little stiff,” he thinks that “gives it a charm.”
Former G N’ R guitarist Slash on “Paradise City.” OC:…a charm. :18
“That’s probably my favorite Guns song, and it’s funny because I listen to the playing on it and I can tell how young I was. And all the potential for whatever – I mean, it’s not even potential – all the heart and the direction was all in place. It was a little bit stiff, but that gives it a charm.”
