WCSX Classic Cuts : Comfortably Numb
WCSX Classic Cuts
Pink Floyd: “Comfortably Numb”
The Hook: So comfortable to play that it could turn a sub-par performance around.
Album: The Wall
Year: 1979
Writers: David Gilmour and Roger Waters
Stats: Though released as a single, it did not chart, but received major U.S. rock radio airplay. In a 2011, it got the fifth highest number of votes in a BBC Radio Four poll in the U.K. that ranked listeners choices for their desert island discs.
Background: It was a favorite of the group’s late keyboardist, Rick Wright, who once explained how important it was in the group’s live show.

“I do like that song and I think it’s got a great structure to it. And it’s a lovely song to perform live, it really is. If sometimes it’s going quite hard on stage and it’s not quite working and I know that we’re coming up to ‘Comfortably Numb,’ I get very happy again.”
