Detroit Metro Airport Named One Of The Best Airports in North America
The Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards have listed their 2022 awards and recognition winners. Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) received the ASQ award for Best Airport of 25 to 40 million passengers per year in North America. The airport passenger satisfaction program launched in 2006 according to their website. They currently have 400 participating airports in 95 countries.
Airport Council International (ACI) World delivers the ASQ awards in partnership with Amadeus, one of the world’s top ten travel companies. The annual award recognizes airport excellence in customer experience worldwide based on data from ASQ’s Departures and Arrivals surveys. Over 465,000 surveys were collected in 2022, and 144 awards have been won by 75 airports around the world according to ACI.
The awards categories included Best Airports by Size (passengers per year) and Region. In 2022, they also introduced new categories:
- Airport with the Most Dedicated Staff
- Easiest Airport Journey
- Most Enjoyable Airport
- Cleanest Airport.
“The passenger is the centre of everything, and this is reflected in every aspect of the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) program,” said Elena Avila, EVP Airport IT & Airline Operations at Amadeus in a statement. “Travellers have spoken and recognized the successful efforts of these airport communities in providing outstanding customer experience.” Avila continued his statement by congratulating the best airports for customer experience worldwide.
According to the ASQ Awards, DTW was rated high by customers for wait times at security checkpoints and border/ passport control areas. They were also rated highly for the courtesy of the staff in those locations. It was noted that the increased and improved signage throughout the airport made things better at the airport.
“Our entire team at Detroit Metropolitan Airport is responsible for DTW receiving this honor,” said Wayne County Airport Authority CEO Chad Newton in a statement reported by WXYZ Detroit.
“This recognition is one of the highest honors in the aviation industry. We thank the entire team at DTW for consistently demonstrating excellent customer service!” stated DTW in a Facebook post.
This isn’t the first time DTW has been recognized. They were also awarded as the best in North America in 2018 and 2020. In 2010, DTW ranked highest in overall customer satisfaction among large airports in the J.D. Power and Associates 2010 North America Airport Satisfaction Study.
