Red Wings Tank, Pistons Win: What’s Up with Detroit Sports?
Detroit sports are all kinds of messy these days. The Detroit Lions recently wrapped up one of their most historic seasons ever, making it all the way to the NFC Championship game. It’s definitely been a “pinch-me” season for Lions fans. Hopefully next season will bring more success for the Lions and even a Super Bowl run, taking the guys from Michigan down to New Orleans. But, what’s up with the other Detroit Sports?
Wild Few Weeks of Detroit Sports: Pistons Win, Red Wings Don’t
The Red Wings were having a great run, were being the operative word. Now, they’ve lost seven straight games in a row. It’s a really bad look, and fans are livid. I caught some of the game Thursday night (March 14) and was shocked with their performance. I don’t watch them regularly, as I watch the Pistons a lot more this time of year, but they just seemed like they’ve lost their way. So, why the downfall? Some fans are speculating it’s because of the wings’ new Jersey Patch Partner, which is Michigan-based Priority. The Wings have been on a losing run ever since getting those darn patches. But, hey, that’s superstitious. So, it’s probably a more deep-seeded issue than the patches.
Now, onto the Detroit Pistons. Listen. I’m a big Pistons fan. I believe in this team and our new coach, Monty Williams. You have to give him time. Dan Campbell lost almost every single game his first season with the Lions. People are forgetting that. This is Williams’ first season with the Pistons, so I beg of you, give him time. I really like this guy. He has a great coaching history, including turning the Phoenix Suns around. He can do it here. The Pistons have won back-to-back games at home now. It’s the best they’ve been doing all season. Friday (March 15), they play again, so we’ll see if they win. The Pistons also recently added forward Simone Fontecchio, which is really helping. Some of these guys are even breaking records. Down the road, when the Pistons are the in the playoffs in the future, I hope this article is still here so I can look back and say, “I told you so.” Not that I would do it. Wink.
