Detroit Rapper Eminem Turns 52
Eminem turns 52 years old on October 17, and he’s been celebrating all year in a major way. Whether it’s new music or family news, it’s been a busy and exciting time for Eminem.
Happy Birthday, Eminem
Earlier this year, the Detroit rapper announced that his alter ego Slim Shady was saying farewell and announced a new album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).
For the new album, Eminem took to social media to post a true-crime detective ad building up the album’s story. In it, a narrator says, “Through his complex and oft-criticized tongue-twisting rhymes, the antihero known as (Slim Shady) has had no shortage of enemies. The same rude lyrics and controversial antics may have ultimately led to his demise. Join me as we recreate the events that led to the murder of Slim Shady.” The album even samples the Steve Miller Band.
Eminem was also recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. During his acceptance speech, he said, “I’m probably not supposed to actually be here tonight because of a couple of reasons. One of them that I’m a rapper, and this is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”
Finally, Eminem recently found out he was going to be a grandfather. His daughter Halie Jade Scott was recently married and dropped the new to him that she’s pregnant.
Halie spoke about listening to her dad’s new album on the Aug. 23 episode of her Just a Little Shady podcast. During the conversation, she said that song of the songs on The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) made her tear up.
When talking about the music video for “Somebody Save Me” with Jelly Roll, Hailie said to her co-host Brittany Ednie, “I watched it in [its] entirety, and I don’t think I can do it again. I definitely cry every time I hear it at all. And actually, Brittany put the little commercial snippet on today and I was like, ‘Can you turn that down? Like, are you trying to make me cry?'”
In the song “Somebody Save Me,” Eminem discusses his battles with addiction. He raps a verse for Hailie in the song, so it’s no wonder that she teared up listening to it. In the song, he says things like, “Hailie, I’m so sorry. I know I wasn’t there for your first guitar recital” and that he “missed the birth of your first child.” He also says, “I’m so proud of how you turned out.”
