Background: The instrumental “Foreplay” was the first musical piece Boston’s Tom Scholz ever composed. He wrote it in 1969, seven years before its final version was released as the prelude to “Long Time.” Scholz talks about recording the two songs and his bandmates’ response to what he’d done.

“That little segue that happens in between ‘Foreplay’ and ‘Long Time’ was the first time I decided I was going to get really experimental in the studio and to hell with what everybody else thinks. Brad and the guys that we used to have on the road with us weren’t that heavily involved in the studio. I don’t think they knew what to think, to tell you the truth.”
