WCSX Classic Cuts : Get Off of My Cloud
WCSX Classic Cuts
The Rolling Stones: “Get Off of My Cloud”
The Hook: Whaddaya mean we need a follow-up to “Satisfaction”?
Album: December’s Children (And Everybody’s)
Year: 1965
Writers: Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
Stats: Topped the Billboard Hot 100
Background: When The Rolling Stones got their first U.S. number-one hit with “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” in the summer of 1965, the band’s songwriting team figured it might be a good time to catch their breath. No such luck. As Keith Richards says, there’s just no rest for the wicked.

“‘Get Off of My Cloud’ was basically the response to people knocking on our door asking us for the follow up to ‘Satisfaction,’ because that’s what it was — ‘Satisfaction’ being such an enormous hit and worldwide. This to us is mind-blowing. I mean, not only is it just a number-one record, just as a songwriting thing we’re saying, ‘At last, I can really sit back and maybe think about this.’ And suddenly there’s the knock at the door. And what came out of that was ‘Get Off of My Cloud.’”
