Toyota Crown – Long Live Sedans
Is the Toyota Crown the future? You’ve started laughing at me – it’s a sedan you say. Everybody wants SUV’s you say. Just follow my logic:
- Car buying is in part based upon styling and having something different. Don’t agree? How many mini-vans are there on the road now compared to SUV’s. For most people (parents) they perform the same function – I might argue that mini-vans have more room for storage and travel (easier in and out for the kids, etc). So why did the mini-van fall out of favor? Your parents drove one. Every soccer mom/dad drove one. They weren’t “cool”. So everyone moved to SUV’s…and now, guess what? Everyone’s got an SUV and your kids don’t want to drive what you drive.
- It’s a hybrid. The 2023 Crown Limited that I drove got a combined 41mpg with a hybrid system that never felt sluggish or working too hard. We can talk all day about the future of EV’s (more specifically the timeline). But if you’ve listened to any of my podcasts on the garage page – we’ve talked about the push/pull mentality of the American consumer. You can’t make us go out an buy EV’s – companies need to see the profit and invest in it. So while they’ll be part of the landscape (they already are) – I’m a big believer that we already have GREAT hybrid systems that we can use to augment mileage while to auto industry evolves. click here to check out my podcast regarding EV’s
- Is the Toyota Crown the future? I’d like to think so. It’s a smart, practical, comfortable and cool looking car. Toyota has built a world class sedan (inside and out) that was an absolute pleasure to drive. It was fun to see people coming up to me while I was shopping/running errands and asking about the Crown. Looking forward to seeing the 2024 version of the Crown.
