The rise of F1 racing here in the U.S. has been fun to watch (to say the least) - of course we've had "Drive To Survive" on Netflix to help raise the awareness, and you can't downplay having THREE races now (Austin, Miami and Las Vegas). How big is F1? We're now getting a new F1 movie with Brad Pitt starring as an aging driver working with his younger teammate.

What's really interesting is the attention to detail for this film - from taking existing F2 cars (imagine the minor leagues) and turning them into f1 platforms - the film makers even have their own pit stalls at the British Grand Prix.

Hollywood has definitely turned their attention to F1 (and racing movies) - Ryan Reynolds is now a part owner in the Alpine Racing Team. A movie about the racing life of Enzo Ferrari is in the works and a film on the life of Carroll Shelby is coming.

But getting back to the as of yet untitled F1 movie with Brad Pitt. It's going to be interesting if the producers can capture the sheer "fighter pilot" mentality of F1 drivers and the energy in the cars that makes it so challenging for these men.

One of the things that's so hard to capture on TV is the lateral G's from the F1 tracks, and the limit that they're on every lap - every turn - every moment. The mental requirements for an F1 driver are incredible (watching the way they make it look easy doesn't portray that).

As more and more Americans come to discover F1 (whether it's via Netflix or watching the races on ESPN), we're going to take more interest in the history of F1 (watch the documentary Senna like every race car driver ever )...here's a conversation with Mario Andretti from my "Big Jims Garage" podcast
