His name is Robert Maddox - also known as the "Rocketman" (as you'll see with this amazing twin engine jet kart below). But he's more than just an incredibly talented, creative guy. He's a reflection of pure joy. Look at that face!

When I was a kid I always wanted a go-kart. We never had the money for it, but it didn't keep me from driving the hell out of them at any local track. And you know - it's still pure joy when I get to drive a kart.

Robert is a reminder of the fun we can have in life (I know, deep dive on a rocket powered kart...but seriously, look at that smile). I've got friends who build cars in their garage and love it, people who paint, collect sports cards, comic books, you name it. And it brings joy. That's what it's all about. I've got a couple of pictures and items of Formula One driver Aryton Senna in my basement. They bring me joy (the joy you'd see when he drove).

Here's something else you'll notice beyond the joy on his face. There's some really impressive engineering going on here. The heat shields and power output plus the control necessary to drive this cart. He knows what he's doing.

Oh and this is more than a one time thing for Robert - check out his other creations HERE

I remember a guy down the street from us who built go karts in his garage. We'd walk by and he was wrenching on them (some were racing level karts).  Robert HAS to be that cool dude in the neighborhood - bringing joy baby!

Now my next goal is to get him to bring one of his Rocket Karts to our Ride & Shine Car Show at the end of July...we could have some FUN in the parking lot at Oakland Mall (or on Woodward).
