Metallica’s Sunday Show Will Be Extra Special – Here’s Why
Metallica totally rocked Ford Field on Friday (Nov. 10), putting one an incredible show. I’ve seen Metallica three times (four, if you count their surprise short set at Orion), and this was by far their best performance that I’ve seen. Now, Metallica are back on Sunday. As it turns out, Metallica’s Sunday show will be extra special.
First of all, if you recall, Metallica’s tour in support of “Hardwired…to Self-Destruct” actually ended in Michigan. The tour’s North American leg closed out at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on March 13, 2019.
Well, it appears the guys love wrapping things up in Michigan, because they’re doing it again. Metallica’s Detroit weekend marks the 2023 finale of the M72 World Tour. That’s right: Sunday’s show marks the final date of the current leg of Metallica’s tour. It makes me feel so special that Metallica picked Detroit for this honor.
The fact Metallica are wrapping things up in Detroit will make Sunday’s show extra special. Of course, the music will also make it special. This tour sees Metallica doing “No Repeat Weekend,” with Friday’s set list totally different from what you’ll hear on Sunday. Friday’s setlist featured a mix of classic Metallica songs (yay!), as well as a few new ones. Highlights included “Fade to Black,” “Seek & Destroy,” “Master of Puppets,” “Sad But True,” “Creeping Death” and “Fuel,” to name a new. One new song that was a treat was “Shadows Follow,” which sounded killer live. It’s easy to see why this tour and the setlists has been drawing rave reviews since August.
With that in mind, we can expect a few of the big ones that Metallica skipped on Friday to appear on Sunday. Expect to hear “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” “One,” “Enter Sandman” and “If Darkness Had a Son,” to name a few. Long live Metallica. I’m going to be buzzing off that show for a long time. Let’s get ready for Sunday.
