Bob Seger: “Hollywood Nights ”
The Hook: How Hollywood are you gonna go?
Year: 1978
Album: Stranger in Town
Writer: Bob Seger
Stats: The second single from Stranger in Town went to number-12 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The Background: Sparked by seeing a photo of supermodel Cheryl Tiegs in a red bathing suit on the cover of Time magazine, Seger — at the height of his success and newly arrived in Hollywood at the time — hopped in his car, drove around and reflected on just how Hollywood he was prepared to go.
Bob Seger on writing “Hollywood Nights.” OC:…to go. :28
“I was living up in the Hollywood Hills and I wrote that song after looking at a cover on a Time magazine of Cheryl Tiegs in a red bathing suit. I think everybody remembers that who’s my age. That’s where the germ came. Then I got in my car and drove around, which I love to do. See, you’re in the big city and you’re happening and your record’s number one or something and now you’ve made it, now you have choices, now you have decisions to make. How Hollywood are you going to go?”
