Michigan to Extend Workplace COVID-19 Restrictions, Says Gov. Whitmer
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer on Monday (April 12) announced that the state will extend the current COVID-19 restrictions in place for workplaces for up to another six months, because of the surge in cases in Michigan.
After touring the Eastern Michigan University vaccine clinic in Ypsilanti, Gov. Whitmer was asked about the order, which requires people to work from home when possible. She replied that she would be extending the order, due to the spiking COVID-19 case rate in Michigan.
“I know that when we do extend them, which we will, people are going to think that that means they can’t go to the office for another six months and that’s not the case,” she said. “By law, we have to give the second extension so that we’ve got some of the tools.”
She added, “With our high positivity numbers, it’s really important to extend for another six months so that we have the ability to work through what these protocols look like and get people back into the workplace when it’s safe to do so with the right protocol.”
