A Huge 2 Mile Long Asteroid Heading Towards Earth
What scientists call a “Planet Killer” Asteroid is set to make a ‘very close’ approach to Earth, which can trigger a dramatic change should it impact our planet.
The huge rock also has a name. The space rock, 2011 UL21, is about the size of a mountain like Mount Everest, making it one of the biggest ‘potentially hazardous asteroids’ to pass our planet in 125 years.
According to a story in the Daily Mail.com, 2011 UL21 is scheduled to come within four million miles of Earth on June 27, its closest approach in 110 years. The asteroid orbits the sun approximately every 1,130 days.
Famous Last Words ” No Need To Worry”
“Potentially hazardous asteroid,” but there’s no need to worry about any threat to the planet any time soon, as it will remain over 17 times farther from us than the moon during this particular time around.
The Asteroid will make close passes by the Earth this week and may even be visible with little more than binoculars.
Not To Change The Subject, But Do You Remember This?
Asteroids is a space-themed arcade video game released in the Summer of 1979 by Atari, Inc. The player controls a single spaceship in an asteroid field with occasional flying saucers.
The game aims to shoot and destroy the asteroids as they become smaller with each strike while not colliding with either or being hit by the saucers’ counter-fire. The game becomes harder as the number of asteroids increases.
The Video Game Was Everywhere
Almost 50,000 stand-up units and 9,000 cocktail table versions were sold to arcades everywhere. I believe it was a requirement that every Pizza Hut has one in its building.
What’s The World Record High Score On Astroids?
As of February 2023, the record for the highest score in the arcade game Asteroids is 41,338,740, set by John McAllister. His game took 58 hours, more than two days! If you have the endurance, you can try to beat this score yourself.
