Birdbrain: How Watching Nature Is for the Birds
The robins returned to our front door again this year. The nest is in a grapevine wreath right next to our front door. Last year four birds emerged from the little nest… and crapped all over my front porch before leaving. Yay nature. I try to look out for the birds, but we do snag photos time to time as they grow. This spring, only one of the three eggs made it to full growth.
We try to use the front door less and watch out for the baby birds. Watching them grow is amazing and so fast!
We figured the bird was getting close with this next pic… mouth open. It seems like hunger would be an effective tool in getting the bird to leave the nest.
Our last pic of our little guy looks like he is definitely ready to go… that’s when things got crazy.
We saw our little bird walking across the yard. We decided to help him get back in the nest. I put on rubber gloves and started walking after the bird. The bird was not happy about this. The bird walked across the street and into our neighbor’s yard, all while yelling at me in Robin. I start whistling like the robins to calm him down (nope… not kidding. Seemed like a good idea.) I finally, carefully picked the baby robin up while 4 adult robins are five bombing me. At this point, I’m thinking my best laid intentions are a terrible ideas. I get the baby back to the nest, gently place him in. Yay! Nope. #fail The bird immediately jumps back out of the nest and lands in a bushy flower. At that point, I turned, defeated, and walked back into the house. Sometimes nature has to run its course and there is nothing I can do about it. See ya next Spring.
