Rock & Roll 500: #69 The Knack – My Sharona
The Knack's Doug Fieger was from Oak Park, born in 1951.
Lead singer, Doug Fieger, wrote this song about a real person. A girl he met in a store named “Sharona.” He broke up with his girlfriend and professed his love for Sharona (who had a boyfriend) Sharona gave in after a year and started dating Fieger as the song skyrocketed through the charts. They broke up after four years together. After their break up, Sharona said that she needed to become her own Sharona, not someone else’s. She spent a lot of time with Doug during the final months of his life.
