Prom Night Of 1982 Looking Back At A Wonderful Night
On out way to the prom dance
Prom Night Of 1982 Looking Back At A Wonderful Night
Seeing all the photos of your kids on social media made me think back to the year I went to prom.
1982 was a great time in rock and roll, and I did everything I could to look like Edward Van Halen. I even got a soft perm on my hair. Epic fail as people told me I looked more like Howard Stern than Eddie Van Halen. My prom date was a wonderful girl named Pam Gentry. Felt like the luckiest kid in the world.
Mark IV Boat for Prom
The night was wonderful as Screamin’ Pops let me use his boat of a car, a 1982 Continental Mark VI. I tried my best to be a gentleman. I did however make a lifelong friend of Pam. Jamming Pink Floyd’s The Wall on cassette and White Wedding plus, some other tunes that got me a good night kiss on the cheek and a prom memory.

The Perfect Parent Photo Op
The prom dance and the whole evening went fantastic. A lot of memories that will last a lifetime. Pam Gentry to this day is a wonderful friend to this very day. Hope the memories are just as special. There might be another side of the story that paints me in a different light.
1982 Prom Then & Now
Pamela Gentry stopped into a night at Winners bar in Harrison Twp. to see my band Chit! play that night. Forty years later. Pam has done well for herself in the medical insurance field. As for myself, I am hopeful this radio thing will pan out because I really like it a lot working at WCSX.
How was your high school prom night?

Awesome Local Detroit Bands Videos That Ruled The 80s And 90s
In 1981 MTV Music Television hit the airwaves with the words, “Ladies and Gentlemen, rock and roll.” I wondered what it would do for the bands in Michigan. Local Detroit bands didn’t take long to start making music videos on their own. In the beginning, videos were cheaply made with Mom and Dad’s video camera. A band that had a record contract had the record label fork over some money to have a music video professionally made.
Before MTV Bands in the 60s were making what they called promotional videos of live performances or would lip sync to their hit song to get into venues and promoters. In the 80s Local Detroit bands got in the game as bands from England already got a big head start on all the bands in America.
Detroit history, The Look was the first Local Detroit band on MTV with its “We’re Gonna Rock” clip in 1981. MTV rotated the band’s 1982 follow-up video of the single, “You Can’t Sit Down,” a Dovells R&B cover. The song made American Bandstand’s “rate-a-record” with a respectable score of 94. The Look got lots of Detroit radio airplay. Dave Edwards continues to write and record currently.
After some digging and with the aid of social media let’s take a trip back to some bands from Michigan that made us pack local venues 7 nights a week. Here are some Awesome Local Detroit Bands Videos That Ruled The 80s And 90s
Born in Mt Clemens, Screamin’ Scott has been a part of the Detroit airwaves for 30-plus years. With 40 years of experience in radio. When he’s not out on the streets for WCSX, you can find him devoting time to local charities with his, “Screamin Angels”; and for 16 years with Rock 4 Tots charity. And last 10 years with his local band, "Chit!." Screamin Scott likes to write about nostalgic Detroit area memories, classic rock, and local metro Detroit topics.
