David Lee Roth First Solo Album Eat Em And Smile
David Lee Roth First Solo Album Eat Em And Smile, Roth’s first outing solo away from Van Halen. Van Halen grabbed Sammy Hagar, so David Lee Roth answered back with violins shot from cannons. I had my ticket to the first of two sold-out shows at Cobo Hall. I’ve got to tell you, my jaw dropped to the floor. David was heavier than Van Halen, which I love, but it was a bit on the light side with Sammy.
David Lee Roth armed himself with a supergroup with Michigan-born Gregg Bissonette, Billy Sheehan, and a guitar player that was so wild and known from the movie “Crossroads”- Steve Vai.
What a high-energy show, I think DLR was sending a message to the Van Halen boys, loud and clear. The competition between the two bands was awesome, and we all enjoyed the rivalry for a short time.
David Lee Roth followed up with the LP “Skyscraper,” which was a little tamer, but it’s still one of my favorite produced albums. Enjoy the hometown footage, and it brings back so many memories.
In an interview with We Go To 11 Click Here: Sheehan said he has professionally filmed a video of a show by DLR and the band for his “Eat ‘Em And Smile.” Now, that I want to see it!
Back in March of 2023 DLR played a few shows in Vegas with his All-Star band The Royal Machines. DLR also keeps busy with his art, youtube channel, and the Roth Show podcast. The best thing is you never underestimate the comeback kid. Van Halen reunion? Don’t count on it just let it rest and remember the good times.
