National Ugly Sweater Day Is Coming In December Time
The ugly sweater trend has been back in fashion for the past few years. “National Ugly Sweater Day” falls on the third Friday in December. Big box stores are already stocked up with their versions and some have started selling, “Do-it-yourself kits.”
Ugly sweaters have gained popularity and the NFL and NCAA started their own ugly brand. I’m looking forward to the parties I will attend with my band soon. It’s a great time of year to feel the ugly.
Like any fad, the ugly sweater business has started to become a bit saturated with more and more people and companies seizing the opportunity to make a quick buck. But the demand is still there, and there’s no ugly sweater recession. Look for more home-ugly parties and local pubs and bars with ugly nights (sweaters, not people).
When Is National Ugly Sweater Day?
National Ugly Sweater Day falls on Every third Friday of December (December 15 this year). Ugly Sweaters have been around since fashion began a very long time ago. Some ugly ones came to be without even trying. My sweaters from Carter Jr. High School in Warren, Michigan probably started the trend in the 70’s.
Ugly By The Numbers
The Company called Uglychristmassweaters.com is a store that specializes in the best of the best ugly you can find. The company reported making 5 million in online sales just recently in the past 3 years. You can say that they know ugly.
According to Suburban Living Magazine, 23% of people will buy an ugly sweater! It’s bound to happen! Whether it’s for a house party, an office event, or for family photos. 9% of people have not been to an ugly sweater party yet? But plan on going to a get-together soon.
Where To Find An Ugly Sweater Around You
If you don’t have the funds to dish out for a sweater, you can always do what I have done many times. Find a local Salvation Amy Store, or any local thrift store will do! There are plenty of styles and colors that will dazzle this holiday. Don’t laugh…but check your parent’s closets. I am sure their taste in fashion was spot on!
Best Thing About National Ugly Sweater Day
The Holiday started as a joke but really took off when some big box stores saw a trend and started to place these ugly sweaters up for sale.
Then, Late Night Comics saw the opportunity to have fun on the holiday, including Jimmy Fallon!
12 days before the Christmas break for the holiday. Jimmy Fallon had the idea and tradition each day of the 12 days left to give someone an ugly sweater. Boy does he have some doozies on the show.
So enjoy a party with friends. Gather fellow co-workers and pick a day or on the day of National Ugly Sweater Day. Have some fun that will bring endless smiles to all.
