Michigan Man Accused of Stealing and Selling “mPerks”
I feel like a lot of people would have taken this guy up on his offer in they knew about it. Grocery prices are out of control and this guy in my opinion just found a way to benefit from it.
Nicholas Mui is from Grand Haven, Michigan and is not in some trouble. Authorities say he hacked into the Meijer mPerks infrastructure and then sold the information online to customers. In turn, the people who bought the information from Mui used the points to fund their own Meijer purchases. It is something called “credential stuffing,” this is where someone obtains information after a massive data breach and then sells them for profit.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel was quoted giving this warning for people who may have been part of a data breach. Basically she told everyone what we already know. If there is a data breach, go in a change your password right away.
So let me break down what was happening is terms even I can understand. Basically this guy was able to obtain peoples mPerks login information, go into their accounts and steal their rewards points. After getting the points, he would then turn around and sell them online to other customers. The complaints began to fly in once people saw their points disappearing in their accounts.
I won’t say I am for this, obviously I don’t think it’s cool that this guy was stealing the points from other customers. But, with that said, I get why people would spend money on the points. With the prices of groceries these days, I could use a few extra points when heading to the store!

HOW IT ENDED:
The police ended up finding 400 thousand dollars in cash and cyrpto cash related to the case. If you ever have a data breach please change your passwords!
