The grand reopening of Michigan Central Station is going down on June 6. Grand opening events are scheduled through June 16. The Detroit train station is hosting a live outdoor performance on June 6 featuring some heavy hitter artists to celebrate its grand reopening. The sold-out show will take place at 8:30 p.m. in front of Michigan Central in Corktown.

Who’s performing at the grand reopening of Michigan Central Station?

Big Sean, Jack White, Diana Ross, Jelly Roll, Fantasia, and Common are among the headliners appearing at the Michigan Central Station concert. The outdoor concert will kick off 10 days of inside and outside viewing that will be open to the public.

The show itself is being executive produced by Eminem and his manager, Paul Rosenburg, officials said. It wasn’t clear if Eminem would make an appearance during the show.

It's not only artists that will be in attendance. Former and current members of the Detroit Lions, including Barry Sanders and Jared Goff, will also be in attendance.

"Detroit is known around the world for its musical talent, and having so many legendary artists kick off the celebration for the reopening of the iconic Michigan Central Station shows how meaningful this moment is for our city," said Mayor Mike Duggan.

"This historic landmark symbolizes Detroit’s resilience, innovation, and now, its bright future. This is about more than preserving a piece of our past. It also is about paving the way for a new era of growth and opportunity for all Detroiters."

The concert will be 90 minutes long and fully outside. It will be accompanied by short films and local leaders who will showcase the legacy of the venue.

Gates open at 6 p.m. and the concert will begin at 8:30 p.m. It'll end at 10 p.m.

How to watch

If you didn’t get your hands on tickets, you can stream the event live exclusively on Peacock on June 6 at 8:30 p.m. ET. Additionally, NBC will air a one-hour primetime special on June 9 starting at 7 p.m. ET/PT. The concert will exclusively air locally on June 6 with pre-show coverage beginning at 8 p.m. ET followed by live post-show coverage at 10 p.m. ET on Local 4, and stream on Local 4+ and ClickOnDetroit.com said the new release.

More to come

After June 16, open house options will still be available to the public on weekends. They'll be limited to the first floor on Fridays and Saturdays during August.

When tickets became available for the open house, excitement around the event crashed the website. But once fixed, the event sold out.

The station’s public opening comes 36 years after the last train left the station on Michigan Avenue in Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood. Ford Motor Co. purchased the building and its surrounding campus in 2018 and has spent hundreds of millions of dollars restoring the area and station.

“Michigan Central Station is a place that in many ways tells the story of Detroit over the past century,” said Bill Ford, the company’s executive chairman in a news release. “We at Ford want to help write the next chapter, working together in Corktown with the best startups, the smartest talent, and the thinkers, engineers, and problem-solvers who see things differently – all to shape the future of mobility and transportation.”
