Bob Seger Meets Barry Sanders At NFL Draft - What Happened

This photo was from Barry Sanders IG account - and we'd heard rumors that Bob was going to be at the NFL draft (heck, he mentioned it last year when he was on the show for his birthday).  Also, check out the smile on Hutch's face - he knows he's witnessing Detroit royalty.

Iconic Photos from Detroit

I started thinking about other great photos from Detroit. The arms raised high from Gibby after the home run against Gossage in the 84 World Series. Bob Seger and Bruce Springsteen backstage at Pine Knob (all thanks to the efforts of the one and only Ken Calvert):

In 1978 Ken was a Capitol Records rep and introduced Seger to Springsteen. Bob was playing Pine Knob that night and Bruce had a night off before his show in northern Michigan. Ken was traveling with Springsteen on his “Darkness on the Edge of Town” tour and Bruce told Ken, “Wanna go see Bob Seger?”

Bob Seger Meets Barry Sanders At NFL Draft - Big Smile

Sitting back on a Sunday morning thinking about the amazing success of the NFL draft (775,000 people - blowing away the record of 600,000 in Nashville) it's easy to get caught up in the scope of it all - which is amazing. But it's those special interactions of fans from all over the NFL in our city having a good time (and giving the Packers fans some good natured ribbing).

That's why the Seger/Sanders photo hits home. Bob loves the Lions and Barry knew he was with Detroit royalty in Bob Seger. Two icons shaking hands and sharing a mutual respect that only the best in their fields could understand (and again, that look from Hutch is awesome).
