Greta Van Fleet Drummer Says He Imitated Van Halen
Thanks to everyone making the comparison, when you hear the name Greta Van Fleet, you probably think of Led Zeppelin. Yet, their drummer had another band in mind when he crafted his style.
Danny Wagner admitted to Drum Magazine that he had several influences, including Zep’s John Bonham and Ringo Starr from the Beatles. But he’s also a fan of another stick twirler.
“You can really hear me channel both guys on ‘The Cold Wind,'” the non-sibling band member says of the track from their debut album, “but I’m also thinking Alex Van Halen.”
Wagner notes that the VH drummer, “has such a strong right foot, but his hi-hat playing is just as fierce,” which he works hard himself to achieve.
