Photo: The Alice Cooper Barn Has Been Found!
First we want to say thank you to our listener Joe Braun who did some investigating and found exactly where the old Alice Cooper Barn was…
Here is the email from Joe:
The mystery is solved! I have found the location of Alice Cooper’s farm on Brown Road in Pontiac, where the band lived and rehearsed their music from 1970-1971. It was about 1 ½ miles west of Lapeer Road on the south side of Brown Road.
The farm was demolished years ago and an industrial development called ABB Robotics at 1250 Brown Road was built on the site. The spot where the farm was located is now the parking lot in front of the ABB Robotics building. The only thing that remains of the farm is the abandoned curb cut and driveway apron on Brown Road, which can be seen on Google Street View.
I found several photos of Alice Cooper’s farm on Glen Buxton’s website and I was able to figure out how all the buildings were situated, and what the farm would look like from the air. I was then able to locate the farm on a 1967 aerial photo taken by Detroit Edison. The large white barn where the band rehearsed is unique in size and shape and was easy to identify in the aerial photo. (See the attached photos).
Alice has said that the mental institution across the road from them on Brown Road was “maybe ½ mile away.” But Dennis Dunaway said it was close enough that “you could throw a rock and hit it practically.” The 1967 aerial photo shows no large building in the area that resembles a hospital. Dennis Dunaway referred to it as “the prison farm.” So it may have been a group of small buildings that can be seen in the aerial photo, across Brown Road, ¼ – ½ mile away from Alice Cooper’s farm.
Here are photos for proof:
