Graham Nash Says David Crosby Had COVID-19 When He Died
David Crosby was battling COVID-19 when he passed away in January at age 81, according to former bandmate Graham Nash.
Nash touched on this during an interview on Kyle Meredith with…. The singer-songwriter said (h/t Yahoo! Entertainment), “He was rehearsing for a show to do in Los Angeles with a full band. After three days of rehearsals, he felt a little sick.”
Nash continued, “And he’d already had COVID, and he had COVID again. And so he went home and decided that he would take a nap, and he never woke up. But he died in his bed, and that is fantastic.”
Nash noted that Crosby “had a good life” and marveled at his storytelling abilities. Their relationship was strained, but Nash said, “I loved him dearly, and looking back, what separated us … it was just foolish stuff, really.”
Nash spoke with AARP two weeks following Crosby’s death. He told the outlet his former bandmate actually reached out to him about a week and half before dying.
“The fact is that we were getting a little closer at the end,” said Nash. “He had sent me a voicemail saying that he wanted to talk to apologize, and could we set up a time to talk. I emailed him back and said, ‘Okay, call me at eleven o’clock tomorrow your time, which is two o’clock on the East Coast.’ He never called, and then he was gone.”
When asked whether or not Crosby knew he was dying, Nash responded, “You know, I’ve thought about that myself. He was a very intelligent man. I wouldn’t put it past him to know that he was actually at the very end.” Nash admitted that Crosby’s passing was anticipated for nearly two decades due to his poor health.
