Billion Dollar Babies: Cooper’s Deluxe 50th Anniversary Set
One of Alice Cooper‘s most revered albums, Billion Dollar Babies, is 50. While this makes us all feel a little older, I’m excited to check out Alice’s upcoming release of “Billion Dollar Babies: Trillion Dollar Delux Edition.” On March 8th, 2024, Rhino will release a 3-LP and a 2-CD set. The original album has been remastered. The sets also include studio outtakes, bonus material, and a 1973 concert recording. If you opt for the vinyl set, you’ll get the gatefold cover replica of the original snakeskin wallet design and a 1 billion dollar bill. I especially love that last touch, Alice. Well done.
The Billion Dollar Babies Tour
The 1973 concert recording was made in Texas. The set includes Alice’s earlier material, “I’m Eighteen” and “School’s Out” plus plenty of tracks from Billion Dollar Babies including “No More Mr. Nice Guy,” “Hello Hooray,” and “Elected.”
The original tour for the album introduced the props Alice Cooper became famous for including the guillotine and the snake. 1973 was the last year that Alice Cooper was known as a group, rather than a frontman.
Both the LP and CD packages also include an oral history of Billion Dollar Babies and bonus tracks from band members Alice Cooper, Dennis Dunaway, Michael Bruce, and Neal Smith. Bob Ezrin produced the album and also made an appearance.
The original album went to number one in the U.S.A and the U.K. Side note: did you know that Donovan sang the background vocals on “Billion Dollar Babies?” Donovan was recording at the same studio as Alice Cooper and just kinda got pulled in.
