Inductees will be announced at the end of April. The Induction Ceremony will take place this fall in Cleveland with the date and venue to be announced. We’ll keep giving you a Rock Hall Fan Vote Update weekly.
The Case For Foreigner in the Rock Hall
And we received this update about Mick Jones:
Vote Foreigner – Couple of Reasons
There was a story in the Detroit News handicapping the Rock Hall voting for 2024. The writer (Jon Bream for the Star Tribune) didn’t give Foreigner much of a chance.
—Foreigner (first). In the 1970s/80s heyday of album-rock radio, they scored a string of hits, but they couldn’t stay together as lead singer Lou Gramm went on his own and guitarist Mick Jones continued the brand. Deserving? No. Chance: 33%.
I’m sorry. Did he say Foreigner is NOT deserving? We’re not going to go down the road of bashing someone to make our point…so instead we’ll focus on facts when it comes to Foreigner and their success:
- Over 80 million albums sold worldwide (including 37.5 million in the United States)
- Their first FOUR albums went 5x platinum. Think about that.
- Foreigner’s first eight singles charted on the Billboard top twenty – making them the first band to achieve this milestone since the Beatles.
- Lou Gramm and Mick Jones were inducted into the songwriters hall of fame in 2013. “I Want To Know What Love Is” is still one of the Top 25 performed songs from the ASCAP catalog.
Bottom line. They belong in the hall. People (not critics) have voted for this band with album sales, concert tickets and merchandise.
Don’t dismiss them because you’re not a fan of straight forward rock. This band should’ve been in the hall a LONG time ago.
And by the way – if you’re upset about who’s NOT in…that’s okay too.
