Suds & Suds: Michigan’s First Laundrobar Brews Up Clean Clothes and Cold Drinks
It’s the first of its kind in Michigan. The laundromat is called “Duds N Suds.” It makes history as Michigan’s first laundromat permitted to sell alcohol. The Grand Rapids City Planning Commission unanimously approved Edward Bates’ Duds N Suds, an owner request. After a two-year process, he is allowed to sell pre-packaged alcoholic drinks.
Who’s Behind This Incredible Combination
It wasn’t easy to convince The Grand Rapids City Planning Commission of this new venture in doing laundry. Edward Bates went through a 17-month legal process and two denials, which made the third time the charm and unanimously approved a special land use request for Bates’ Duds N Suds, allowing him to sell pre-packaged alcoholic drinks. The laundromat is located at 1517 Langley St.

The Duds N Suds Clientele
The big selling point is the high-capacity washers for larger items such as comforters or area rugs. Mr. Bates doesn’t worry about people getting into alcohol-related fights at the laundromat. In a recent interview with Crains Grand Rapids News, Edward Bates said, ” “I do not expect to sell a high volume of alcohol,” Bates said. “I don’t plan on or look for any rowdiness. I don’t drink; I never have.” Check out the full article by clicking here
What Is A Laundrobar?
It’s exactly what it sounds like. Not every day do you see someone walking around the Laundromat with a bottle of Bud Light in one hand and a box of powdered Tide in the other. The idea behind the Laundrobar Bar is insanely simple yet brilliant. The Laundromat/bar combo provides a place for patrons to get their wash and drink on simultaneously. Some around the country, such as college campuses, have in-house DJs, disco lights, and sound. At the same time, others chow down on burgers and fries that have in-house restaurants.
Another Great Idea In The Works
Not long ago, my Wife had the incredible idea for a hair salon for Men and Women called Brew Cuts. It would be kind of in the same lane as some of the hair places around the Metro Detroit area. The idea could work for both Men and Women. But for now, it is just an idea.
