Madison Heights Factoids:
- Madison Heights was originally a part of Royal Oak Township.
- Madison Heights was named after James Madison High School. The name “Madison” stuck when the city was incorporated in 1955. “Heights” was added at that time just because it sounded good. Madison Heights is actually 633 feet above sea level.
- The first subdivision in Madison Heights was built between 10 and 11 mile roads, and between Campbell and John R .
- Madison Heights slogan is as “City of Progress” . (So is Warren’s!)
- Madison Heights features Red Oaks Water Park ( has the highest water slide and biggest wave pool in Michigan), Planet Rock Climbing Gym, as well as Modern Skate & Surf skate park.
- Did you ever see that giant mural of the whales on the side of the building in downtown Detroit (Broderick Tower building) – easily visible from the seats at Comerica Park? That was painted by the artist known as Wyland, and he is from Madison Heights.
- The 80’s WWF wrestler George “The Animal” Steele was from Madison Heights.
- Today Madison Heights is known for a combination of homes and light industry.
