What Is Windsor Style Pizza?
What makes Windsor style pizza so good? Is it the shredded pepperoni? The canned mushrooms? There’s a new documentary about “the pizza city you’ve never heard of”:
And they’re not alone with their discussion of Windsor style pizza
Couple of noticeable differences:
- shredded pepperoni (they look like matchsticks)
- Windsor style uses canned mushrooms over fresh (they retain moisture and don’t dry up in the pizza oven)
- Galati cheese is the ONLY choice for Windsor
Is this more than a regional food obsession? Have our friends in Canada discovered something magical? Big Dudes Food blog thinks so.
As someone who’s been slapped with pizza before – I’m now wondering if this style would be better (thank god the Lions don’t play anyone in Windsor)
Since we’re talking about international pizza – see if you agree with this top five:
1. New York City, USA
There’s no denying that New York City is one of the great pizza capitals of the world. The city is home to countless pizzerias, each with their own unique take on the classic dish. Whether you’re in the mood for a thin and crispy slice or a thick and chewy pie, you’re sure to find it in NYC.
2. Naples, Italy
The city of Naples is often credited as being the birthplace of pizza, so it’s no surprise that it would make this list. Pizzerias in Naples are known for their traditional wood-fired pizzas, which are typically topped with fresh mozzarella and tomatoes. If you’re looking for a truly authentic pizza experience, there’s no better place to go than Naples.
3. Chicago, USA
Chicago is another great city for pizza lovers. The city is home to a style of pizza known as deep dish, which is characterized by its thick crust and generous toppings. If you’re in the mood for something a little different, be sure to check out one of Chicago’s many deep dish pizzerias.

Rome may not be as well-known for its pizza as Naples is, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t worth checking out. 5. Tokyo, Japan
Tokyo may not be the first city that comes to mind when you think of pizza, but it definitely deserves a spot on this list.
