Holland Michigan Man Wants To Swim Lake Michigan
Something that has been done only 8 times will be attempted again this August. Bryan Huffman is a Holland Native who has a dream of swimming across Lake Michigan.
This will not be the first crazy and long distance swim Bryan has attempted. Last year he successfully swam across the English Channel, which was 37 miles from England the France. If Bryan is able to pull this off he will only be 1 of 9 people to ever make it.
This is being coined as “Bryan’s Big Lake Swim” he will start at Rawley Point Lighthouse near Manitowoc, Wisconsin and swim to Big Sable Point Lighthouse just north of Ludington in Michigan. The entire trip is about 60 miles. Bryan is doing this for more than a personal accomplishment, he wants to raise money and awareness to help fund swim lessons for future swimmers. He is swimming for the Holland Aquatic Center, and hopes to raise enough money to make swim lessons cheaper for the youth.
Bryan originally set his goal at 12,000 dollars but has since raised that. After seeing an English swimmer raise 500,000 dollars, Bryan knew he could do better.

Bryan will not be done after this Great Lake swim though. After that he plans to swim the 20 Bridges Swim in New York City on Thursday, September 28. The 20 Bridges Swim, the English Channel, and Catalina Channel, are referred to as the Triple Crown of open water swimming.
If Bryan can pull this off, he will attempt to complete all the Great Lakes next summer.
We will make sure to update you with how Bryan does. It is always a cool and proud moment to see fellow Michiganders pull off some crazy and seemingly impossible feats.
Don’t forget, for the casual swimmer, here are a few floating helpers!
