What Makes Sammy Hagar Nervous?
What makes Sammy Hagar Nervous? Sammy checked in to talk about his new Red Rocker Lager – made here in Detroit baby. First off, why Detroit?
Well, I am working with the right people. And the idea of having beer made in Detroit. Come on, just like that guy up behind you, Bob Seger. Come on, it’s American made music. American made in Detroit no less, right? The car capital of the world.
And does Sammy get nervous about bringing out his beer? Apparently not:
Things that make people nervous like walking out in front of 40 ,000 people or something. That doesn’t make me nervous. You know what makes me nervous is walking out into a living room where there’s five people. And somebody says, hey, man, play and sing us a song. I’m going, sh**, man, that’s scary. I’m not joking. I’m just wired different, I guess.
The bigger the crowd, the less nervous I am. I get up.
I really get up for it. So releasing a new product like this. First of all, I wouldn’t release it if I didn’t think it was the best beer I could possibly make. So that’s where the whole confidence thing comes from.
And since we’re talking with Sammy — Van Halen fans can’t wait for this come out in the fall (which is soon, right?)
Van Halen is releasing a new box set honoring the “Van Hagar” era of the band.
The Collection II is due out on October 6 and features remastered versions of the four studio albums Sammy Hagar fronted the band: 1986’s 5150, 1988’s OU812, 1991’s For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge and 1995’s Balance. Additionally, the box set features Studio Rarities 1989-2004, a collection of rarities and b-sides.
Hagar said in a statement on the box set, “These records were recorded before (without) ProTools or digital recording: it was analog on real to reel tape recorders. There’s a very special sound to that type of recording. We were careful not to destroy any of that, but to re-master with more modern technical equipment to bring out that wonderful magical sound.”
Bassist Michael Anthony added, “So excited about our Sammy era box set coming to ya!! Our longtime studio engineer Donn Landee remastered these albums, and they are kicking ASS!!”
The Collection II is available for pre-order in a variety of formats and via various retailers here.
