Anthony Kim Returns to Golf: Where Will He Play
Late last week the news broke that Anthony Kim is looking to return to professional golf. If you don’t remember Kim, let me fill you in on the very unique journey he has had. Also, where will he play when he gets back? I have a few thoughts on where he will land.
For those who remember, Anthony Kim was one of the hottest young golfers on the PGA. For those of you who forgot, let me remind who Anthony Kim is.
Anthony Kim, now 38 was once a PGA stud and one of the most entertaining golfers on tour. He turned pro in 2006 and quickly rose the ranks, at one point reaching number 6 in the world in 2008. Kim has an interesting story though, in two years he had a couple of tour wins and spent 20 weeks in the top 10. In the fall of 2008, he was a massive part of the winning Ryder Cup team.
ANTHONY KIM HIGHLIGHTS:
WHAT HAPPENED:
Kim, would go on to play at a high level for a few more years, until a leg injury and surgery took him out of the 2013 season. This is where things got interesting. During that season, Kim had an insurance policy that would pay him 20 millions dollars if he had a career ending injury. There is where golf stopped for Kim. Some think that he took the policy in thoughts that he may not make that much on tour. Since then, Kim has reportedly left the clubs in the garage and carried on with his life. Now, Kim seems to want a comeback at 38. Something I am very excited about.
I have always loved Kim, he was one of the first outside of Tiger to bring style and swag onto the tour. His belt buckles were those of legends and so were his bar tabs. I once saw a photo of a bar tab from a Vegas club. I remember it being north of 200 thousand.
WHERE WILL KIM PLAY:
Now, the massive question, where will Anthony Kim play? I have a few opinions on this, first, what does the PGA have to offer him that would pull him away from joining LIV. LIV can offer millions, the PGA Tour can offer legacy and tradition. Obviously, we haven’t seen Kim in a while so we cannot tell how much he has changed as a person, but if I had to call it, I would say LIV suits him better.
This is why I think he joins LIV. Kim seemed like the guy who wanted to make a ton of money and not play that much golf. That is why I think LIV is the best option. It also allows him to make money up front and not worry about results of tournaments. With all of that being said, we will have to wait and see what kind of person Kim is now. Is it about money or is it about playing golf?
