Sammy Hagar Surprised As Laredo PD debunks $1M Tequila ‘Hijack’
Sammy Hagar and Bay Area celebrity chef Guy Fieri reported that two freight trucks carrying $1 million worth of their co-owned tequila brand Santo Spirits were allegedly stolen in what appears to have been a targeted heist this month.
According to Sammy Hagar, the trucks were hijacked on Nov. 9 in Laredo, Texas, as they were crossing the U.S. border. However, what happened to the 4,000 cases of agave spirits is still unknown.
The LPD Auto-Theft Task Force was assigned to this theft of cargo case.
“At this preliminary phase of the investigation, it is believed that at some point the trucks with the tequila cargo were re-routed to California due to alleged issues with the warehouse at the original listed destination, which is still being vetted,” LPD said.
“The Los Angeles Police Department is involved in the investigation due to the alternative location where both drivers stated the cargo was actually transported to. There are no indications that these trailers were hijacked anywhere as alleged in national media publications.”
As per police, the only Laredo connection to this case is that the freight originated in this city.
“The investigation has indicated that no force was ever used to acquire the trucks and the freight was transferred from the warehouse to the legitimate motor carrier hired by the shipper to transport it,” LPD stated.
“Both drivers involved in this investigation were never injured at any point. This is an ongoing investigation.”
How Much Tequila Was Taken?
The stolen cargo included just over 4,000 cases of tequila, totaling 24,240 bottles of Santo Blanco, reposado, which took 39 months to produce.
Fieri told People magazine online, “We’ve worked so hard,” which first reported the theft. “This is our best year we’ve ever had in Santo. We just had all this momentum, and now whatever’s on the shelf is all people are going to get.”
What Will This Mean For Santo Spirits For The Holidays?
The Product that’s out on the shelves is all that’s left. It will take a while to replace stock so that supplies will be thin for the upcoming Holidays. So, it might be wise to stock up while you can.
Any Leads On The Tequila Thevies?
The Laredo Police Department and CargoNet, a federal organization investigating cargo thefts, are on the case. Sammy Hagar and his Business friend Guy Fieri have offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of the trucks, with a particular emphasis on locating the stolen extra añejo, which he called the brand’s “crown jewel.”
Santo, The Tequila Brand Owned by Sammy Hagar and Guy Fieri
Friends and founders Sammy Hagar and Guy Fieri built their success on artistry, hard work, and going all the way every day, putting their heart and soul into everything they do—and then some.
Sammy grew up the son of farmers. As a boy, he picked fruit under the hot California sun, saving forty dollars to buy his first guitar. This union of hard work, a life spent rocking concert stadiums and building a tequila empire.
Guy Fieri also spent his youth in California selling pretzels. He is an American restaurateur, author, and Emmy Award-winning television presenter. He licenses his name to restaurants in cities worldwide and is known for hosting various television series on the Food Network.
At the historic El Viejito Distillery, Sammy and Guy have put their ideas to work, tapping into the soul of Old Mexico. The result is an ultra-premium tequila that stays true to its roots—born from the sacred Blue Weber agave and nurtured with craftsmanship and care. No shortcuts. No added anything. Nothing to hide. Just the fullest, finest expression of agave flavor—turned up.
Sammy, In The Meantime, Announces A Las Vegas Residency
SAMMY HAGAR’s ‘Best Of All Worlds’ Tour To Return As Las Vegas Residency In April/May 2025
“The Best Of All Worlds Tour – The Residency” at Dolby Live at Park MGM in Las Vegas, Nevada. The tour will reunite the rock powerhouse band of Sammy, Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani, and Kenny Aronoff with a new “only in Las Vegas” setlist running April 30 through May 17, 2025.
Jason Bonham, son of late LED ZEPPELIN legend John Bonham, took part in the U.S. leg of “The Best Of All Worlds”, which focused largely on celebrating the music of Hagar’s former band VAN HALEN. Unfortunately, Bonham had to leave the tour with four shows remaining on the U.S. leg due to a family issue.
There are talks and rumors that more dates across the US will be added for the summer of 2025. Hopefully, another stop at Pine Knob Music Theater.
