What color of car gets the most speeding tickets?  It may not be the color you think…

“Name a car color you would you NEVER buy,” was a recent question I asked you to help survey on social media. I was amazed at some of the responses and why.  My favorite answer was from Laurie on Facebook who said, “RED...NOT EVEN IF WON!!  Also refuse to ride in red.” I was cracking up! Laurie is seriously not a fan of red cars.  I expected all crazy colors, and although PINK was the number one answer for "a car color you would NEVER buy," there were a huge amount of white (shows dirt), red (gets tickets), even silver and black answers I received.

For decades, I have chosen not to get a red car because I thought I was more likely to get a speeding ticket. After the car color discussion, I did some homework.  WHITE is the color of car that gets the most tickets according to American Auto InsuranceRed is second, followed by gray and silver.  It’s actually considered an urban myth that red cars receive more tickets.  Why do white cars get more tickets? Popularity.  White has been one of the most popular vehicle color choices for the better part of the last ten years, nationally.  The most popular color for vehicles in Michigan is black, followed by white, and silver, respectively.  The article also talks about the most ticketed BRANDS of cars.  Subaru WRX got the most, according to American Auto’s research.  Which brand gets the least tickets?  Buick Encore crossover SUV

I also looked up “What color of car gets stolen the most?” I couldn’t believe the answer: GREEN - According to The HubYep. Green. 3.58 cars stolen out of 1000 registered cars are green cars. Black came in second with a rate of 2.96, followed by red then white.  Do you know who isn’t getting tickets or stolen? Those sweet sweet “champagne mud” colored vehicles, that’s who. I think I found the color of my next car.  As far as car theft goes in general, car theft is DOWN 55% since its peak in 1991, according to InsurifyTheir research included a state-by-state chart of the most stolen cars.  In Michigan, that car was the Chevrolet Impala in 2020 and the Dodge Charger in 2021.
