Local Detroit Band Heaven’s Wish Has One More Show Left To Do

Heaven’s Wish one of Detroit’s premiere rock and roll bands currently is getting ready for one last show. It’s not a farewell tour that goes on for years. Heaven’s Wish knows this time when the house lights come up it will be the band’s final show. Saturday, February 10th 80s Throwback Concert at District 142 with special guest Chit! and Devil’s Child.
Some of the songs you can look forward to hearing are: Ridin’ High, Stay The Night, Let’s Dance, I Just Wanna Die, She’s Hot, Just Lookin’, Lonely Nights, Talk Talk, Something About You, plus many, many more. Some of the die-hard fans may have heard some of these tunes live before as they were written in the late 80’s, or early 90’s.

Formed in 1986 the band line-up was Ronnie Vanderlip (vocals) Michael Blair (guitar), Tom Janssen, Jim Ellery, and the late great drummer Rob Julian. The band took over the rock scene becoming a tight rock and roll machine. Standing alone with originals building one of the largest followings. Performing at large-capacity clubs back in the day like Harpo’s Concert Theater and the Ritz in Roseville. With an incredible stage show complete with pyrotechnics. Highlighted with a $20,000 aluminum stage risers.
Awards And Achievements
Voted Detroit’s Best Rock Band by local radio in 1991 and in addition to the title. The band got to open for the Motorcity Madman Ted Nugent for his Whiplash Bash at Cobo Hall that year. Even won over the audience with an encore.
Heaven’s Wish has also opened for acts like Eddie Money at the 1989 Detroit Gran Prix, Rik Emmet , Bohnam, Joan Jett, Skid Row, Warrent and many more.

More Local Detroit Bands Videos That Ruled The 80s And 90s
In 1981 MTV Music Television hit the airwaves with the words, “Ladies and Gentlemen, rock and roll.” I wondered what it would do for the bands in Michigan. Local Detroit bands didn’t take long to start making music videos alone. In the beginning, videos were cheaply made with Mom and Dad’s video camera. A band with a record contract had the record label fork over some money to make a music video professionally.

Before MTV Bands in the 60s were making what they called promotional videos of live performances or would lip sync to their hit song to get into venues and promoters. In the 80s Local Detroit bands got in the game as bands from England already got a big head start on all the bands in America.

Detroit history: The Look was the first Local Detroit band on MTV with its “We’re Gonna Rock” clip in 1981. MTV rotated the band’s 1982 follow-up video of the single, “You Can’t Sit Down,” a Dovells R&B cover. The song made American Bandstand’s “rate-a-record” with a respectable score of 94. The Look had lots of Detroit radio airplay. Dave Edwards continues to write and record currently.

Some of these great bands played at some great local venues around town. A few that come to mind, are Harpo’s, The I-Rock, The Ritz in Roseville, The Hayloft East & West, Blondies, Jaggers, and others. We grew up in a great time for music in the motor city. Even some fans made road trips to Grand Rapids, Flint, and parts of Ohio. Don’t Forget even road trips to Canada to follow Detroit Bands.
