One Place In Michigan To See Total Eclipse
What’s the one place in Michigan to see total eclipse? Well that would be in Luna Pier – but the mayor would prefer you don’t. Here’s why:
One Place In Michigan To See Total Eclipse – Where and Why Not
Luna Pier is the only city in Michigan where you can see a 100% solar eclipse on Monday – but Jim Gardner, the Mayor of Luna Pier, would prefer you go to Toledo.
Here’s why: Luna Pier (if you’ve never been) is a small town right on the Michigan-Ohio border in Monroe County. When we say small, we mean about 1,400 people (very cool place by the way). But the main bridge (going over I-75) was demolished last year and won’t be open until late this summer. So you can imagine how it’ll be getting in and out of town for the solar eclipse on Monday.
The Mayor of Luna Pier would prefer you head down to Toledo – and he says you’ll actually get an extra minute to see it on Monday afternoon.
Here’s the report from our friends at Channel 4:
Will Animals Freak Out During Solar Eclipse?
We were definitely wondering about that – when day turns into night (wait, I just wrote a Doors song). So the short answer is NO for pets, but wild animals? Some of them just might.
According to an article on Live Science.com, it’s all about impactin circadian rhythms in animal behavior (which is strongly tied to the cycles of light and dark). Bird chirp at night, cicadas make noise at dusk, etc.
Back in 2009, a research project found that cicadas and birds dramatically altered their songs and behaviors in response to the total solar eclipse on July 22, 2009. Spiders have also reportedly torn down their webs during an eclipse.
