Bob Seger Sings Led Zeppelin – Happy Birthday Robert Plant
Bob Seger sings Led Zeppelin. I’m sorry…what? Ever heard Bob Seger covering a Led Zeppelin song? We got it for you – BTW, Happy Birthday Robert Plant! Okay…let’s get back to the story of how Bob Seger sings Led Zeppelin.
Seger In Chicago
It’s a classic Bob Seger story. Here he is talking about it with Rolling Stone back in 1980:
“It’s great that things worked out . . . but it doesn’t mean as much as the little victories you really savor, like the time in 1976, several days after I’d played to only 500 people in a Chicago club, when I walked into Pontiac Stadium the night before a concert, saw how big it was and knew it was sold out. I said to myself, ‘They’ll never be able to take this away from me.’” That crowd was the Silverdome and 80,000 people screaming for Bob after he’d played in front of 500 people in Schaumburg, Illinois. Here’s where WE get very lucky!

The B’Ginnings club show was broadcast live on WXRT-FM radio in Chicago, and captured on CD’s “for Radio Chicago” back in 2016. The CD features a superb live FM recording from the B’Ginnings club, capturing Seger and the Silver Bullet Band before they broke through to the big time. Seger’s Radio Chicago 1976 features eleven songs, including fan favorites like “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man,” “Beautiful Loser,” and “Travelin’ Man” as well as local Detroit favorites like “Rosalie” and “Lucifer,” and even a scorching cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love”.
