New Video of Man Falling Off Ambassador Bridge in Detroit
Imagine falling off the Ambassador Bridge into the Detroit River. Scary, right? It happened to a young man from Windsor named Spencer – falling 150 feet into the river.
Watch the newly released video of the man falling – taken from the security cameras at JW Westcott. Fortunately for Spencer a family saw him fall and hit the river, notifying the folks at JW Westcott to help – which they did and saved his life.
Our friends at Channel 7 had an interview with his fiancée last week
Spencer was released from hospital last Friday and is resting at home with his family (including their new child).
Sitting here thinking about everything that had to go right to rescue this young man – the family looking at the bridge at the exact moment Spencer fell, the JW Westcott ready to go and reacting as quickly as they did.
‘The force of the impact had ripped most of his clothes off of him,’ Sam Buchanan, captain of the Westcott, told Fox 2 Detroit.
‘His work boots were still on him and his pants were around his ankles and he had his T-shirt on.’
Buchanan said Baker was ferried back to shore where Detroit paramedics took over.
‘We were relieved that he could talk to us, but he was pretty out of it,’ Buchanan said. ‘He kept asking us what happened to him and we told him that he fell off the bridge. ‘We scrambled out to our boat and we got aboard – myself and two crew members, and with the help of the folks in the park they were pointing to where the man was,’ Buchanan explained.
We’re all happy that Spencer’s alive and well (recovering at home) – and send our best wishes to him and his family.
