Neuralink: Information For Dummies
Neuralink is one of the most interesting topics out there right now. You can try to understand it by reading intelligent articles, or you can see what I have to say about it while I break it down for all of our non scientist brains.
Neuralink is a company that was created back in 2016 by Elon Musk and a group of scientists. Their first focus was to treat serious brain injuries with an implant. Since then the focus has been on connecting humans on a level we have never seen before. Let me try and break this down for you in terms that I understand, again I am just some dumb radio guy who thinks it is very important to be aware of these kinds of things.
WHAT IS NEURALINK
After years of lab trials, the first human received a Neuralink implant and they seem to be recovering well. Basically, what the implant will do is allow a person to control things like their phone, computer and other interactions but just thinking. This is just the start though, at some point people may even be able to communicate without using words. The first recipients of the implant will all be those without limbs. This will allow the person to use electronics easier and allow them to live an easier life in general. Musk said this via Twitter (X) on Monday. “Imagine if Stephen Hawking could communicate faster than a speed typist or auctioneer. That is the goal.”
Neuralink is a small implant that consists of 1024 electrodes distributed across 64 threads. It is powered by a small battery that can be charged from the outside. This device is truly a first of it’s kind, and now with a human trial in place, it’s becoming more of a reality every day. Imagine if you could connect with people, browse the web or even play games with just your thoughts. That is the end goal when it comes to the implant. Connect the human brain with the A.I. world.
So basically, to recap, Neuralink is a small chip that is implanted into the cerebral cortex. From there, the electrodes will send signals related to motion. When that happens it will send signals to an app that will then translate the thoughts into text, so basically it turns your brain into a very advanced computer system.
Really want to dive deep? Take a look at what a real scientist has to say on the matter:
RYAN’S THOUGHTS
I think like a lot of the A.I. world, we as humans have to accept this is what’s next for technology. I feel this way because I don’t think there is anyway around it. It’s where the world is headed and the sooner humans embrace it, the sooner we will be able to cope with the thought of it. I think Neuralink can be a good side of the A.I. world.
I’ll be honest, a lot of it scares the daylights out of me and has been thinking about it more than I would like. But for now if this product can help those who have had their ability to communicate taken away, I am all for it. In the end I hope they continue to use it for the right reasons, but how crazy is it to think that we are not far away from everyone having the chance to have one of these.
Again, all of the above is written by a guy who barley finished high school but finds all of this very interesting. Take what I said, and continue to do your own research when it comes to artificial intelligence.
Also, while we are talking about Elon Musk. Will this fight ever happen? See I am back to dumb radio guy!
