How good are the Detroit Lions? NFL great Darryl “Moose” Johnston joined us and discussed the Lions in the future.

We football fans are so close to what’s happening with the Lions. Can you tell us from someone on a national level if we are right to be drinking the Honolulu Blue Kool-Aid?
“Is there something going on here? Absolutely. I’m a big fan of Dan Campbell and many of the people you have in your organization. I think they’re building it the right way, to be sustainable.”
Dan was a tight end, and I’m a fullback. We see the game very similarly: Build it from the inside out. Be good on the offensive and defensive line. That’s where the games are won and lost. At the NFL, we talk about the skill players on the outside. We’re always interested in the quarterback, but none works unless you’ve got an offensive line that can control the game. So I think it’s being built the right way.
I saw a lot of similarities this season with our 1991 Cowboys team. And then we circled back the next year and won our first championship. We were six and five at the turn of that year. In ’91, we went and played the 11 -0 Washington Redskins, and that was kind of the game that propelled that team on into ’92 and to what we did, you know, moving forward in the three Super Bowls in four years. I saw a lot of similarities between our ’91 team and the Lions team this year, but then you went farther than we did in the playoffs.
So… So, I think that that’s the opportunity that this team is looking at. And I know you can look at the glass half empty, right? You can, hey, we had a great season last year.
The One and Done Concern – How Good Are The Detroit Lions?
You look at Dan Marino; he went to the Super Bowl early in his career and never returned. So you never know when those unique seasons are gonna come together. But that’s why I think what Dan is building in Detroit is unique because it doesn’t seem like it will be a flat….You know, it’s sustainable. We’re going to continue to build. We’re going to add. We’re going to grow. So I think there’s no reason to drink that Honolulu blue Kool-Aid.
5 Reasons the Detroit Lions Could Go to the Super Bowl Next Year
Too soon? Maybe. The Detroit Lions are still hurting from getting oh-so close to making it to the Super Bowl for the first time in the history of the franchise. But, don’t fret, Lions fans. Dry those tears. I’m here to tell you that the Detroit Lions could very well make it to the Super Bowl next year.
This isn’t wishful thinking or false hope. There have been several developments this week that, personally, have given me a lot of hope about the future of this team. Some of that hope comes from the fact those in the inner circle of the Lions – coaches and players – know more about what’s going on than we do, and those people seem to be in great spirits. They even want to stay with the team for one more go.
It’s going to be difficult. The NFC North is getting stronger each year. Green Bay is going to be a major contender next season. The Vikings could be very strong, too. The Bears, well, as my dad would say, God bless them, but they have a ways to go. But, the Lions have a real chance to once again be NFC North champions, and this time, they could go all the way. Let’s look into why this team could go to the Super Bowl in 2025.
Also, if you have any interest in watching the Big Game this year, this year’s Big Game will take place on Sunday, Feb. 11, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. ET. The Super Bowl halftime performer will be Usher. You’ll be able to watch the festivities on CBS, Paramount+ and NFL+. Of course, this year’s game as the San Francisco 49ers up against the Kansas City Chiefs. Dang, it still burns that it’s not the Lions vs. the Chiefs. Let me know what you think here.
