The long-awaited sequel film was recognized for its soundtrack in two categories: Best Compilation Soundtrack For Visual Media and Best Song Written For Visual Media for “Hold My Hand” by Lady Gaga.
Top Gun: Maverick debuted on Paramount+ a week ago (December 22nd) and it’s already the most-watched premiere weekend in Paramount+ history. Granted these debuts are relatively recent ( Sonic The Hedgehog held the previous record), but there’s no denying that Top Gun: Maverick is crushing streaming records. Even Top Gun saw massive spikes… 400% up in viewership in the same time frame.
The movie made more than 1.4 BILLION in 2022. Top Gun: Maverick isn’t just the biggest movie of 2002, it’s one of the biggest of all time. It beat out second-place Black Panther: Wakanda Forever by roughly 300 million dollars domestically.
Worldwide versus domestic (United States) numbers are insanely different. Avatar: Way of the Water got off to a lighter-than-expected start over Christmas weekend, but much of the U.S. experienced severe weather. The latest Avatar movie grossed more than 300 million domestically. Worldwide, the figure for Avatar: Way of the Water is 1.1 billion, not far behind Top Gun: Maverick which was released back in May. (Figures from BoxOfficeMojo)

Top Gun: Maverick Sinks Titanic a Notch
Top Gun: Maverick passed Titanicon the list of the highest-grossing domestic movies of all time.
Titanic moves to the 8th position as Top Gun: Maverick rises to 7th. The Tom Cruise movie has now sold over $662 million worth of tickets, but there are less than 50 million dollars separating 9th through 5th place. Top Gun: Maverick could very well pass Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther to reach the 5th spot.
Out of the top ten movies listed below, I haven’t seen Spider-Man: No Way Home either. I LOVE superhero and action movies, so this situation is embarrassing to admit. 🙂 Worldwide, the highest-grossing movie is Avatar. I haven’t seen the new Avatar: Way of the Water, but I definitely want to see it SOON. Check out the trailer:
