Did Tim Allen Flash Pamela Anderson?
Pamela Anderson is set to release a new memoir called “Love, Pamela,” on January 31st, 2023. The NY Times gave it a great review, referring to Pamela as a “natural storyteller.” In the memoir, Pamela makes mention of a memory she has from her first day on the set of “Home Improvement” with Tim Allen. As Pam tells the story, Tim Allen flashed her. The question being asked is “Did Tim Allen flash Pamela Anderson?”
In Pam’s memoir, “Love,Pamela”
“On the first day of filming, I walked out of my dressing room, and Tim was in the hallway in his robe. He opened his robe and flashed me quickly — completely naked underneath. He said it was only fair because he had seen me naked. Now we’re even. I laughed uncomfortably.”
According to Variety.com, Tim Allen responded, “No, it never happened. I would never do such a thing.”
My opinion: Yes, you did Tim. I can’t blame him for denying it as an immediate reaction. Many things that we would have found funny in the past are not acceptable behaviors today, but I 100% think he did it. Pamela Anderson isn’t suing Tim Allen over this. She just related a story of a memory she has. I’m sure 1991 Tim Allen thought he was HILARIOUS flashing Pamela Anderson and telling her, “Now we’re even.” I’ve seen you naked, now you’ve seen me naked. I’m sure some people still find this funny. The hard part about comedy is that not all jokes land like you thought they would. 30 years later, it’s no “joke” when a 37-year-old man flashes his 23-year-old coworker.
TO BE CLEAR: I’m not suggesting that we all hang Tim Allen out to dry (any more than Pam is). If the incident did happen, I do think the decent thing to do is to recognize and apologize rather than deny it. Admit a bad decision, apologize and move on. I’m sure Tim is concerned… Movie deals and sponsorships could hang in the balance.
I can’t blame him for immediately denying it, but I personally, would think more of Tim Allen if he admitted it. Would Pam Anderson have told the story if it wasn’t truly something she remembered? It seems out of character to me.
Pamela Anderson has been DEFENDING Tim Allen
Since the initial story broke, in another interview with Vanity Fair, Pam said of the incident, “This true story is just one of many surreal and uncomfortable situations I learned to navigate,” Anderson writes. “My book goes into how it made me feel over the course of my life and, in this case, my career. I have no ill will toward Tim. But like the rest, it should never have happened.”
Pam continued, “Tim is a comedian, it’s his job to cross the line. I’m sure he had no bad intentions.” (BuzzFeed)
