When I think of a hilarious roast, I think of the old Dean Martin classic roasts from the past. The Dean Martin Celebrity Roast was a TV show hosted by entertainer Dean Martin back in the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s. Martin and his friends would “roast” a celebrity. The roasts were patterned after the roasts held at the New York Friars’ Club.

What Makes a Hilarious Roast?
Every roast begins with an introduction by a roast host, with jokes about the person in question. That person introduces each roaster comic, who takes turns adding insults or jokes about the honoree. This particular roast is a bit different for me since I’m the one being roasted!
I have been a part of a few roasts in my years… Most recently Vinny Dombrowski, my good friend and the lead singer of the band Sponge. This is my first time taking one for the team. It’s not like I can’t laugh at myself. Here are some examples:

Please join me on September 24, 2023, Sunday at Freddy’s bar and grill. My roast has a lineup of some of the area’s best local comics that will bust me up on stage throughout the afternoon. Comics like Ref Ledbetter, Tonya Murray, Penny Candy, Justin Stanek, Ben Cheek, and special guest roasters. Friends can, for a donation, go on stage and roast me over the coals. Donations all go to 4 Paws and 1 Heart funding medical treatment for stray, abandoned, and abused animals. I don’t know how all these folks will find dirt on me since I’m such a nice guy. LOL
Great Roast Entertainment for Local Bands
The roast will also include some great local Detroit music, including “Local Joe”, “86 Noodles”, “Mob Opera”, “Set-N-Stone”, and a surprise band scheduled to play. The fun starts at noon on Sunday and goes on till 8 pm. I have never been roasted before so you are in store for a lot of surprises the whole day long… and so am I. It’s great to see all my friends come out for laughs and to help an area charity.

“When I was a kid I stayed at a bed & breakfast with family photos on the walls,” one user wrote. “There was a sister named Gridget. I actually think about this a lot.” It’s kind of like a spin on the name Bridget. This Redditor seems really stuck on the name they found.

This unique name caught this person off guard. They even tried to figure it out by mixing it with other names. “I once saw a baby announcement where the mom was named Shannon, the dad was Daniel, and they named the baby Shanniel,” they wrote.

Dyslexia
Sometimes people just go with the flow when picking a name for their kid. Maybe it felt right at the time, and they didn’t even realize it’s also the name of a condition. While working at a gas station, this Reddit user observed a mother who let her child run around wild. They wrote “One small girl was pushing on a display stand and the mother screamed: ‘DYSLEXIA GET YO A– OVER HERE!”

Donnaria
Back in school on the playground, this person probably had a rough time. This is particularly true because their name coincidentally rhymes with a sexually transmitted disease. Nevertheless, a user pointed out that it’s a clever fusion of two names. “Donnaria. A combination of her Mom’s name (Donna) and Grandma’s name (Gloria),” they wrote.
Alcoholic Beverages
Bacardi, Hennessy, Tanqueray, Alizé – the names keep coming. It turns out a Redditor, who happened to work in children and family services, encountered kids with names inspired by alcoholic beverages almost every day. “You don’t know how bad it really gets. Lots of kids named after alcoholic beverages.”
